Canyon was my significant other. She came into my life at a time when I felt that I could open up my heart once again.
Canyon taught me to love again, and she loved me unconditionally. We did most everything together. We bought a house. She needed a yard. I needed roots. We shopped, and Canyon came inside wherever dogs were allowed. Restaurants with dog friendly patios were preferred when eating out (weather permitting). We walked and hiked. She swam wherever there was a large enough body of water for her to wade into. Canyon loved to swim, but she was not a diver.
In the early years we camped, and later pet friendly vacation locations were a must. Places with lots of snow in the winter for “snow rolling”, and in the summer, cool mountain water for her favorite pastime swimming.
Canyon enjoyed being the only pet. Though she always welcomed friends and family with their dogs, she tolerated the arrival of grandchildren, greeted everyone who came to the door with a wagging tail, a toy in her mouth, and a friendly purring song. She was always glad to see them depart, allowing us to return to our routine. Canyon was my dog, and I was her human.
Canyon was my companion, my confidant, my best friend. She will always be a part of my heart and my life.
Canyon crossed over the rainbow bridge on September 8, 2008, just shy of her tenth birthday. There she waits, chasing squirrels and balls, swimming to her heart’s content, playing freely until the day when we can be together again.
I thank her for enriching my life and allowing me to love her. I miss her more than I ever could have imagined that I would.
You will live forever “LaLa” (one of her many nicknames) in my many cherished memories, and in my heart.
